A Touch of Africa - Shampoo Bar
A nod to the rich and diverse scent of African soil. A combination of tropical fruits, African herbs & wooden spices and hearty oils unite to create the unique scent of this series.
Our signature series ‘A Touch of Africa’ is the richest, boasting heaps of African spices & essential oils, honey, clay & Neem extracts harvested on our own farm and locally produced oils & butters purchased from the local community in our proximity, thus supporting sustainable farming and fair trade.
Coconut-, Baobab- & Macadamia Nut Oil are all packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids along with vitamin A, C, D and E as well as essential fatty acids making them ideal ingredients to strengthen, repair and moisture dry hair. Baobab oil strengthens the hair and protects it from damage caused by environmental stressors such as pollution, free radicals and UV rays.
Shea- & Cocoa Butter help reduce hair loss and repair dry, damaged hair, preventing further damage by adding lubrication to the strands and reducing breakage. They add strength by penetrating deep into the hair structure sealing cuticles, locking in water and nutrients and fortifying the hair.
Clay from our organic farm traps and removes dirt, greases and other particles from your hair and scalp, it delivers essential trace minerals like Silica to your hair follicles and produces dense foam in our shampoos.
Unfiltered, raw honey including small particles from the honeycomb and traces of propolis from our farm is extremely rich in enzymes, antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and waxes, all essential for healthy, well hydrated, elastic hair.
Neem Bark Extract has strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory as well as insecticidal properties, making it an ideal ingredient to clean our hair and scalp from everything that shouldn’t be there whilst actively cleansing and strengthening hair follicles, increasing blood circulation in your scalp and giving you stronger, healthier roots.
Squalane effectively moisturizes and hydrates brittle and dry hair, making it softer, giving it a silky-smooth texture and making it more manageable. Similarly, it penetrates the hair shaft, providing moisture to the cuticles and reaching the cortex (inner hair layer). Squalane oil tames fly-aways and frizz by reducing static and smoothening the hair cuticles.
D-Panthenol is also good for rough textured hair because it can smooth out the imperfections in the hair shaft. In our body Panthenol is converted to vitamin B5, which has anti-inflammatory properties that aid in the reparative process of damaged hair. In a study looking to treat thinning hair, D-Panthenol showed as a promising ingredient to help contribute to help to mitigate the effects of thinning hair and showed an increase in cell viability, stimulating hair growth.
African Spices, 9 different essential oils and a combination of tropical fruit fragrances boost the vitalising effect and give my products their unique scent.
For our shampoo bars we use a blend of the two surfactants called “SCI”, a derivate of coconut oil, and “SLSa”, an organic salt, as a base.
How to use:
- Wet your hair.
- Stroke your shampoo bar over your hair a few times to lather it up, or rub the bar between your hands to create a lather.
- Gently massage it into the scalp and hair, as you would with a liquid shampoo.
- Rinse out.
- Leave the bar out to air dry, ready for its next use.
Why shampoo bar and not liquid shampoo?
- Unlike traditional liquid shampoos that often contain harsh chemicals like SLS, Paraben, Alcohol, Silicones etc. that will strip your hair of its natural oils and cause dryness and irritation, we chose shampoo bars that are made with natural ingredients that are gentle to your hair and scalp.
- Solid shampoo bars are self-preserving, which is especially appreciated when it comes to the active ingredients that are used in anti-lice shampoos that normally have a very short shelf-life.
- Reduce your carbon footprint! There is no need for a plastic bottle, instead, we only pack our shampoo in a thin box made of recycled cardboard that takes up much less space on your bathroom shelf.
- Children find it easier to handle the bar and tend to use less than liquid shampoo.
Our Neem
We harvest our neem leaves and bark from our neem trees on our organic farm in Takaungu, Kenya. The leaves and bark are then dried, packed and exported to Europe where we make our own extracts that we then use in our products.
Everything about Neem
The healing benefits of its fruits, seeds, oil, leaves, roots, and bark have long been used in the Indian Ayurveda and Unani systems of medicine. Over thousands of years, millions of Asians have used neem medicinally.
Today, it is widely recognized for its merits as a general antiseptic and fungicide. It boasts a perfect cure against all forms of dermatological bacteria and insects, thus also developing a strong position in organic veterinary medicine. Dental treatments, Malaria, pain relief and fever reduction are only a few more of the "40 medical uses" as they call Neem in Kenya.
